Classic car show returns to Black Mountain for third year

The third annual classic car show sponsored by the Swannanoa Valley Museum and History Center will take place July 29.

Classic cars will roll into Black Mountain for the third annual classic car show, sponsored by Swannanoa Valley Museum and History Center.

The show will feature cars from the early 1900s up until the 1980s. The theme of the show is “Rock the Classics.” It is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 29 at the old Bi-Lo parking lot, 205 N.C. 9 in Black Mountain.

Swannanoa Valley Museum and History Center Executive Director LeAnne Johnson said she had the idea for the car show during the pandemic.

“The idea was to have a community event where people could gather and enjoy their love of cars and just get to see each other outside,” Johnson said. “With fresh, open air away from all things COVID.”

The Rock the Classic car show features cars from the early 1900s to the 1980s.

Johnson said there were more than 150 cars the first year, and the event has been “building slowly but surely” ever since. She said she hopes to have even more cars this year.

In order to gather interest for the Rock the Classics show, Johnson said organizers start looking for sponsors for the event at the beginning of the year. They reach out to car groups, make social media posts and write about it in their newsletter to drum up interest.
